Everything You Need to Know About the H54 Water Filter
When it comes to choosing a water filtration system for your home, there are a lot of factors to consider. Most of our Everpure water filtration systems measure about 22 inches tall. While this is usually compact enough to fit underneath most sinks, sometimes space is at a premium. The H54 system measures only 15 inches, making it roughly ⅔ the size of our other systems. This can help save space underneath your kitchen sink, which can be especially useful if you have limited storage space in your kitchen. This compact size also makes these systems ideal for anyone looking for a built in water filtration system to use in an RV, where space is often at a premium.
Despite the small size of these filters, they are not in any way underpowered. In fact, the H54 system offers the same filtration qualities as many of our larger water filtration systems. Each H54 filter cartridge is designed to filter 750 gallons of water, giving them over two times the filtration capacity of some larger cartridges we carry like the popular H300.
Like all of our home water filters, the H54 contains Everpure’s proprietary Micropure filtration media. This material is capable of removing particulate matter as small as half a micron in size from your drinking water. This includes common contaminants such as rust, silt, lead, and other waterborne contaminants. These filters are also rated to help remove biological contaminants such as disease causing cysts like Giardia and Cryptosporidium.
This filtration power comes for the carbon based media found inside these cartridges. Activated carbon, which looks like a fine black powder to the naked eye, is a great filtration material due to its high surface area. If you looked at this powder under a microscope, every granule is covered in jagged hills and valleys. This surface texture makes this material perfectly suited for extracting contaminants from your water, while allowing water to pass through them. The filtration media inside the H54 cartridge is arranged on a pleated membrane, which helps to increase the flow of water while still maximizing the surface area inside the cartridge.
In addition to offering incredible filtration quality, the H54 is also designed to help prevent scale build up. Lime and scale buildup on faucets and appliances that use water are the result of dissolved ions in your water. Calcium and magnesium ions are the most common cause of this issue as they make water “hard”. In appliances like coffee makers and kettles, a large amount of scale can be deposited as water is heated and evaporated away. If you want to keep these appliances running more efficiently for longer, then these filters can be a great help. Hard water can also make soap less effective, which can be a big issue for RV owners.
On top of softening and filtering your drinking water, the H54 is also incredibly easy to use. Like all of our Everpure water filtration systems, these filters are designed to be extremely easy to use. All you have to do is install the filter head and hook everything up to your water line. These systems also require adding a small filtered water dispenser to your sink in the form of an air gap faucet. Once you have installed all of these components, all you have to do is attach your filter cartridge, run the system for a few minutes to purge any air, and then enjoy the convenience of having freshly filtered water available 24/7.
With a capacity of 750 gallons per cartridge, you usually only need to replace these cartridges once per year. If you notice that the flow rate of your system decreases before a year has passed, then you will need to replace your filter and you might want to consider replacing it with a higher capacity filter cartridge, which our team can help you find.
