NSF is a not-for-profit corporation founded in 1944 to promote good sanitation.  Its main business is to bring together experts in public health, manufacturing, and sanitation from government, industry, academia and the public to develop and administer performance standards for products which have some impact on sanitation and public health.  NSF maintains state-of-the-art laboratories where products can be tested according to the set standards.

Every human on this planet deserves to drink safe and clean water. Although we are blessed with vast water resources, humans have become the top contributors to water contamination. Because of our dream of industrialization and highly civilized living, we have taken for granted the importance of clean land, air, and especially water, which is crucial for human survival. We may have direct access to tap water in our homes, but it may contain hidden contaminants that can be harmful to our health.

Although the UN recognised it as a human right officially in 2010 , access to clean, safe drinking water is a privilege not afforded to everybody. According to the World Health Organization , there are currently 844 million people on the planet who can’t consistently access a clean water source.

The history of water filtration and treatment dates to more than 4,000 years ago. People who lived during these early times were exposed to various diseases, believing that any clear water was safe to drink.
