How an Everpure Water Filtration System Can Help Combat Heavy Metal in Drinking Water
As homeowners and other conscientious consumers become increasingly aware of the conditions surrounding the qualities of safe (and unsafe) drinking water, new issues come into the limelight. While it is a well known fact that microbes such as bacteria, protists and certain parasites can present a biological threat to drinkers, these are far from the only threats that lurk in improperly treated or untreated drinking water. An Everpure water filtration system can help combat many of these - but it’s utility is not limited to that. Microbial dangers can be destroyed, often with UV water treatment, biological agents, or simply by boiling water, but there are other issues, such as those associated with heavy metal, that can only be removed via certain methods such as filtration. Heavy Metals and Drinking Water: Not a Match Made in Heaven Heavy metals, so called because of their density, are naturally occurring minerals that exist in the earth’s crust and soil, even being present at certain levels in waters of the ocean and freshwaters of the world. Some of these so-called heavy metals, like gold and copper, are not only beneficial to life in certain vital, trace quantities, but actually essential to biological homeostasis. However, when some heavy metals accumulate in the body’s tissues at unacceptable levels, they can cause a variety of health issues and even pronounced toxicity. Some of them, such as lead, mercury, and cadmium, have not been assessed as vital trace elements, and their presence in drinking water, in any amount, is undesirable. Since they often occur naturally in the soil and in water, and can even be released into water from some pipes, preventing their occurrence is not always entirely feasible. What you can do is invest in a serviceable Everpure water filtration system using Everpure H300 filters to help remove some of the following contaminants. Lead in Drinking Water Lead is one of the most common culprits in drinking water contamination, due to the low levels of lead implicated in lead toxicity as well as the fact that lead has had many commercial, industrial and residential applications throughout the years. Processes have improved, but lead in drinking water is still a concern for many people around the world. What’s interesting about lead is that, because it is soft and malleable, lead was frequently used in the past to form vessels and pipes for bearing water and other liquids. That’s where we get the term “plumber,” for a person who works with pipes, because the Latin name for lead was plumbum (which is still evident in the elemental abbreviation, Pb) and many pipes in the past were made of lead. However, as science and medicine advanced, the toxic effects of lead exposure became better known. High levels of lead can cause systemic damage to the body, resulting in weakness, wasting and anemia. Specifically, lead causes damage to the kidneys and the brain, adversely affecting the health of the central nervous system. Lead exposure is also a pronounced concern for pregnant women, and it is very dangerous to a developing fetus. According to the EPA, the ideal level of lead in water is zero micrograms per liter - which is none at all, ideally all lead would be removed from drinking water prior to consumption. However, although the Maximum Contaminant Level Goal is 0, the EPA has set the action level at 15 micrograms per liter, a much more attainable goal. There are a variety of methods by which lead can leach into drinking water. One is through old pipes that contain lead. Lead pipes, faucets and other fixtures can allow lead to leach into the water, especially if the water is acidic (which encourages dissolution) or contains minerals to which lead can bind, thereby allowing it passage into the water. Be that as it may, an effective water filtration system that contains a filter like an Everpure H300 filter can be your greatest asset against this heavy metal in drinking water. For its part, the Everpure H300 meets NSF Standard 53 for the safe removal of lead. Copper Copper, like iron and many other trace elements, is essential for survival. Copper is used by the body in the formation and repair of blood cells and blood vessels. It is also vital to the health of the musculoskeletal system and to overall immune health. However, as toxicity comes with the dose, elevated levels of copper in drinking water, which will be passed into the body, can prove detrimental to human health. Although copper toxicity is rare and usually results only from prolonged exposure to elevated levels of copper, it is implicated in a variety of health conditions. Too much copper can damage the liver and cause acute gastrointestinal distress. Copper toxicity can also cause feelings of general malaise, headaches and nausea, and perhaps most concerning of all, can lead to the development of cardiac arrhythmias in otherwise healthy individuals. Copper, like lead, can enter the water in a wide variety of ways. Perhaps most interestingly, highly acidic water can cause copper to dissolve directly from pipes into the water, since, as you may have noticed, copper has taken over the central role of lead in plumbing pipes. Copper can also enter the water through local contamination of water sources attributable to mining, industrial or agricultural applications. Copper is tricky to remove from water, but an Everpure water filtration system that uses reverse osmosis (or RO) can help to remove it. In addition, getting in the habit of running only cold water can cut back on copper levels, as hot water dissolves copper more readily. Mercury Mercury is not considered an essential trace mineral and has proven to be harmful to human health even at very, very low concentrations. Native mercury is toxic enough, but it is a highly reactive element that forms even more dangerous compounds such as dimethylmercury, methylmercury and mercury chloride. Elevated levels of mercury in the body are highly dangerous. Mercury is extremely destructive to the central nervous system and can cause muscle weakness, impairment and imbalance. Mercury and mercury compounds can even cause dramatic shifts in mood, in certain afflicted individuals. Over time, mercury exposure can cause memory loss and decreased cognitive and neurological functions. Mercury poisoning is not necessarily common, but mercury is a naturally occurring element in the earth. It gets into drinking water primarily when rain containing mercury-bearing compounds enters waterways. Industrial, chemical and mining processes sometimes release mercury into the atmosphere, which then deposits them through rain into freshwater waterways. Mercury is even more dangerous because it and its compounds can pass through the membranes of many protective substances that are known to be effective against other toxic minerals. Many filters are not effective at removing mercury, but some can be used to combat mercury levels - notably reverse osmosis systems that are also effective at removing copper. Antimony Antimony, like mercury, is not considered a vital trace element, and so the goal is to remove it entirely from water which is destined for human consumption. It is considered toxic even at low concentrations, and the EPA sets the maximum allowable level of antimony in water at 6 micrograms per liter. The effects of antimony poisoning are many. According to the NCBI (National Center for Biotechnology Information), antimony poisoning can cause gastrointestinal distress, nausea and even ulcers. Antimony is also implicated in a wide range of respiratory and cardiovascular complications, and certain compounds containing antimony may even cause reproductive harm or be considered carcinogenic. Antimony is a rare element, but it does occur naturally. Though it is present more commonly as a contaminant in food than in water, its use in associated with lead plumbing is a concern. Lead, being a naturally soft native metal, has sometimes been hardened and strengthened using antimony. Where antimony occurs with lead, there may be concerns of either being present at elevated concentrations in the water. Luckily, processes such as reverse osmosis and adsorption can prove instrumental in the removal of antimony from drinking water. Zinc and Cadmium Though they are distinct heavy metals with equally distinct chemical and physical properties, concerns for these are often interlinked, as cadmium and zinc often occur together where they have been used in a process known as galvanization. Galvanized metal is metal (such as iron or steel, both of which are reactive) that has been treated with a protective zinc coating to help stall or prevent corrosion. The process of galvanization is common enough and highly effective at reducing the corrosion of reactive metals, but where galvanized fittings come in contact with drinking water, it can present an issue. While zinc is a highly important trace element, and cadmium may potentially serve a vital biological function (though this is not currently well understood) both of these metals can prove toxic at elevated levels. For its part, zinc toxicity occurs when excess zinc is ingested. In the short term, zinc toxicity can hamper copper and iron absorption, which are also vital trace elements. Symptoms include nausea, diarrhea and other forms of gastrointestinal distress; in the long term, zinc toxicity may cause decreased immune function as well. Cadmium is much more dangerous, causing systemic issues associated with many major organs. Cadmium bearing compounds may also be carcinogenic. Where one is present at high levels, so may be the other. Luckily, an Everpure water filtration system that utilizes reverse osmosis may prove to be effective at removing cadmium and zinc. Manganese As a component of many vital enzymes, manganese is a trace element that is essential to the health of humans. It is also naturally present in water and food, and it’s occurrence as a trace element is therefore not inherently bad. However, when present at elevated levels, manganese can result in marked complications. In fact, there is even a name for the condition associated with manganese toxicity, aptly titled “manganism.” Textbook effects of manganism include impaired muscle function and motor coordination, leading to difficulty walking and muscle spasms. Luckily, manganese is not quite as difficult to filter from drinking water as some of the other heavy metals in this lineup, and an Everpure water filtration system such as one that uses an Everpure H300 can prove to be effective at removing oxidized manganese from the water. Arsenic Arsenic is a difficult element, and a difficult heavy metal to categorize from a health standpoint. It is well known for its acutely toxic effects, and exposure to elevated levels of arsenic may be associated with equally elevated risks of developing complications such as cancer and heart disease. Be that as it may, it is possible that arsenic is a trace element. Nonetheless, the EPA has set the acceptable standard for arsenic concentrations in drinking water at a ridiculously low level because of its known harmful effects. At just 10 PPB - that’s parts per billion - the acceptable levels for arsenic in drinking water are very, very low, almost nonexistent. Reverse osmosis water filtration systems may be considered an effective solution to ensure the safe removal of arsenic (and many other contaminants) from drinking water. Other methods that may prove effective include ion exchange and coagulants. Because of the very low acceptable standards for the presence of arsenic, if there is any reason to believe that arsenic is present, protecting against it is a matter of importance. What You Can Do about It Many Everpure Water Filtration systems, especially those that utilize reverse osmosis to remove contaminants from the water, can be effective at removing the heavy metals discussed in this article. There are others, though - metals such as thallium and barium are also considered harmful and should be filtered from the water if it is suspected that they are present. Some of our Everpure water filtration systems are also useful for removing more than just heavy metals from the water. For example, our H300 water filter is effective not only at removing lead and oxidized manganese, but also cysts of known pathogens such as cryptosporidium and giardia, VOCs, chlorine, mold and algae. When used properly, they may even be able to combat turbidity. The ROM IV: Our Best Reverse Osmosis Water Filter
Here at efilters, water filtration is what we do. We have spent years researching different filtration brands and devices in order to always offer our customers the best options on the market. Along with keeping great products in stock, our team is always standing by to answer our customers' questions and make sure that they have the filtration solutions they need. For anyone looking for the best possible home water quality, our ROM IV system is one of the best reverse osmosis water filter options available on the market today. What is Osmosis? One of the first questions that we hear when discussing reverse osmosis is how it works. In order to properly understand the RO process, you have to first understand what osmosis is and how it works. Simply put, osmosis is a natural process that describes how a liquid interacts with a semi permeable membrane. This is a membrane that allows certain substances like water through, while not allowing dissolved materials in the water to pass through. Osmosis is important when it comes to water with different levels of dissolved solids. If you put pure water on one side of a semi permeable membrane and water with dissolved solids on the other side, osmosis will cause water to flow towards the side with more dissolved solids. The goal of osmosis is to achieve balance on each side of the membrane. The clean water will flow towards the dirty water side in an attempt to lower the concentration of dissolved solids. Obviously this process cannot defy gravity, so at a certain point the flow of water will stop. This is determined by the osmotic pressure of the system. The level of water on the dirty side will continue to increase until the weight of water pushing down on the membrane and the flow of clean water across the membrane balance each other out. At that point the process stops and you are left with slightly less water on the clean water side and slightly more water on the side with more dissolved solids. Now that you understand how osmosis works, it's time to look at how it can be used to filter water. How Does Reverse Osmosis Work? The natural osmosis process makes cleaner water flow into water with more contaminants. Reverse osmosis, as the name suggests, reverses this process. Instead of diluting water to lower the concentration of total dissolved solids, the goal of reverse osmosis is to increase the amount of dissolved solids in water by removing fresh water using a semi permeable membrane. In order to achieve this, RO filtration systems take advantage of osmotic pressure. When you put water on one side of the membrane and nothing on the other side, water will slowly trickle through the membrane and clean water will collect on the other side. At a certain point, osmotic pressure will cause this process to stop and balance out. In order to get as much pure filtered water out of the system as possible, the filter has to overcome the natural osmotic pressure on the membrane. This is achieved by applying pressure to the input side of the membrane. As dirty water enters the RO filter and is pressurized beyond the osmotic pressure of the system, clean water collects on the output side of the membrane. This process continues until only a small amount of water is left on the input side. This remaining water will carry all of the contaminants of the water, while the output side will be almost completely pure drinking water. Other Filtration Systems The RO process is unique compared to other filtration technologies. Most filters pass water through special filtration media in order to filter it. This media is typically carbon based, specifically activated carbon. This powdered material has an incredibly high surface area due to countless microscopic peaks and valleys on the surface of activated carbon. These filters are pretty simple compared to reverse osmosis systems. Instead of using membranes to filter out waterborne contaminants, the carbon based filtration media captures contaminants as water passes through it. These filters are a very effective way to remove larger contaminants from water, but they do have their limitations. A high quality particulate filter can remove extremely small particles from water. Typically this includes contaminants as small as half a micron in size. That is roughly 100 times smaller than the width of a strand of hair. This makes carbon filters effective for removing a wide range of contaminants. This includes biological contaminants like bacteria and cysts as well as particles of heavy metals like lead that can be hazardous in high concentrations. Another advantage of these filters is their high flow rate. Carbon filters can produce drinking water fast enough to fill a glass with ease or even deliver the same flow rate as a kitchen faucet. This makes them a great choice for homeowners. Home RO Filtration So if carbon media filters already work, why would you need an RO filter? Your average carbon media filter can remove contaminants as small as 0.5 microns, but reverse osmosis filters are far more effective. A reverse osmosis filter can effectively remove contaminants as small as 0.0001 microns in size! That is 5000 times smaller than what your average filter can achieve. The best reverse osmosis water filters will combine an RO membrane with conventional filtration to achieve the best results. The membranes used inside RO systems are delicate and designed with microscopic pores. Certain chemicals in water, like chlorine compounds, can damage these delicate membranes. When the pores of the membrane are damaged by chlorine, they will let large particles through the membrane and lower the effectiveness of the system as a whole. The tiny holes in an RO membrane are also easy to clog. Preventing clogs is essential when it comes to extending the lifespan of your RO filter cartridge. Using a carbon particulate filter before the RO filter is a great way to remove both the chlorine compounds and large contaminants that could damage your filter. This combination will maximize the lifespan of your RO membrane while also What's the Catch? So if RO filtration is so effective, you might be wondering why people even bother with carbon media filtration systems. While RO filters are some of the most effective home filtration systems when it comes to offering incredibly clean water, they are a little more complicated than your average water filtration systems. This means that if you want to add an RO system to your home, you are going to need to have more room under your sink to dedicate to your filtration needs. Most RO systems will require multiple stages of filtration including a prefilter cartridge to remove chlorine and large particles, an RO filter to perform the actual reverse osmosis filtration, and in some cases and additional carbon block post filtration cartridge to help remove anything that might have gotten passed the RO filter membrane. This means that the actual filter cartridges can take up three times the amount of room as a conventional filter system. Reverse osmosis filtration is also a slower process than carbon media filtration. Carbon filters can deliver anywhere from half a gallon per minute to 2.2 gallons per minute, the same rate as home faucets. Home reverse osmosis filters have water production rates under a gallon per hour, which means that they cannot produce drinking water on demand. Instead additional room has to be allocated to fit a storage tank. This tank will hold several gallons of reverse osmosis filtered water so homeowners will always have a supply of incredibly clean drinking water that is ready to consume. So when it all comes down to it, even the best reverse osmosis water filters will require a little more room than your average water filtration system, but that is a small price to pay when it comes to the higher water quality that homeowners with RO systems enjoy. As far as maintenance goes, you should always change your water filter cartridges annually, regardless of the type of filtration system that you need. This means that RO filters require the same basic yearly maintenance as other home filtration systems, which is already incredibly simple when you use our Everpure filtration systems. A Look at the ROM IV Now that we've gone over all of the basics of RO filtrations, it's time to take a look at the ROM IV and what makes it our best reverse osmosis water filter for homeowners. These water filters use three stages of filtration to provide homeowners with incredibly clean and crisp drinking water. This includes a prefilter cartridge for removing sediment and chlorine, a reverse osmosis membrane filter cartridge, and a carbon post filter cartridge for removing volatile organic compounds that might make it through the RO membrane. The final stage of filtration occurs between the storage tank and the faucet, which means that even water that has been sitting in storage will be freshly filtered before consumption. The ROM IV can filter 14 gallons of water per day. For most households, this is more than enough water to get through several days. The ROM IV has a 4.5 gallon storage tank that will keep water ready for use and will start to refill once you've used some water. The tank can totally refill from being drained in less than 8 hours, so even if you use all of the water in storage during the day, the tank will be full again by morning. In addition to producing more than enough water for the average household, the ROM IV is also designed to minimize the production of wastewater. The RO process removes freshwater from water with dissolved solids, but it has to leave some water on the input side to carry those dissolved solids away. The ROM IV system is designed to produce an extremely small amount of waste water which is drained from the cartridge and into your sink's drain pipe. By minimizing this waste, the ROM IV is one of the best reverse osmosis water filters when it comes to efficiency and turning as much water into fresh drinking water as possible. In order to dispense its water, the ROM IV requires the installation of a dedicated filtered water faucet. Small air gap faucets are great for this purpose and are available in a wide range of styles. You will find several options here on our website to choose from. If you cannot find one that will match your kitchen, then they are easy to find from stores that sell kitchen hardware. As far as yearly upkeep, the ROM IV is incredibly easy to maintain. The pre and post filter cartridges need to be changed annually and are sold in a convenient two pack. The process of changing the filter cartridges is quick and easy. All you need to do is flip a shut off valve on the filter head and then unscrew and replace the filter cartridges. The actual reverse osmosis membrane cartridge has a longer lifespan and only needs to be replaced once every two years. If you are interested in adding the best reverse osmosis water filter to your home, then our ROM IV is truly the perfect option. These filters are the latest from the Everpure ROM line and we are excited to offer our customers the amazing drinking water quality that comes with using one of these filters. Filtration Options for Small Spaces
Our Everpure water filtration systems offer incredible water quality while operating out of sight and out of mind. All of our filtration systems are designed to be mounted underneath a kitchen sink and to provide freshly filtered water on demand. By using easily replaceable filter cartridges, these filtration systems are extremely simple to use and maintain. In addition to offering amazing water quality in home kitchens, we also carry Everpure filtration systems that are designed to be a perfect fit for smaller spaces like the H54 and EF1500 systems. All of our Everpure filtration systems are designed to be easy to install and operate. These filtration systems can be added to any kitchen sink using only a few basic hand tools, making them a great option for homeowners without plumbing experience. All you need is about a foot and a half of space on the inner wall of the cabinet beneath your sink to install one of our compact Everpure filters. H54 The Everpure H54 is a great option for smaller spaces. While your average Everpure system measures 20 inches in height, the H54 system is only 15 inches high. This makes it the most compact Everpure home filtration system that we offer. Despite being 25% smaller than other popular Everpure filtration systems like the H300, they still have a high water filtration capacity. Each H54 cartridge can filter approximately 750 gallons of water before a replacement cartridge will be needed. The key to the efficiency of these filter cartridges is their internal design. Each cartridge contains Everpure's proprietary Micro-Pure filtration media. This carbon based filter media has an extremely high surface area and is capable of removing particulate matter as small as 0.5 microns in size from your drinking water. The media is laid out along a pleated filter membrane to provide a high internal surface area to promote both filtration and excellent water flow. In order to dispense filtered water, the H54 will require a dedicated water dispenser, typically in the form of a small air gap faucet. These faucets are available in a wide range of styles, so it is easy to find one that will be a good match for your kitchen. EF1500 While the H54 is a great option for small kitchens, it does require the installation of a dedicated water dispenser. Due to space restrictions, many small kitchens will not have room for additional fixtures without sacrificing valuable counter space. Instead of dispensing water through a second faucet, the EF1500 is designed to dispense filtered water using the cold water side of your existing faucet. While most Everpure filtration systems are designed to divert a portion of water from a sink's cold water line, full flow systems like the EF1500 completely divert all water from the cold water side of your faucet. In order to filter all of your cold water without sacrificing the flow rate of your sink, the cartridges on full flow systems are designed a little differently. Each cartridge provides a flow rate of 2.2 gallons per minute, the same as the average home faucet. This is a significant improvement over the 0.5 gallons per minute flow rate from other systems like the H54. In addition to offer this improved flow rate, these filtration systems are also designed to filter 1500 gallons per cartridge. This is partially thanks to the internal design of these cartridges, which have a porous carbon block design that helps to pack as much filtration media as possible into the compact cartridge. For both of these filtration systems, maintenance is a simple process. Typically the capacity on these cartridges make them large enough to provide clean water on demand for an entire year. Regardless of the amount of water filtered, it is recommended to change your cartridge at least once per year to maintain a healthy filtration system. If you notice a decreased flow rate before a year has passed, this is a sign that it might be time to change your cartridge. Luckily the cartridge replacement process is as simple as changing a lightbulb and should only take a few minutes. Once this is done you will be able to enjoy up to a year of having freshly filtered water whenever you need it. No need to constantly refill pitchers or constantly replace filter cartridges. All you have to do is grab a glass, fill it, and enjoy the clean, crisp taste of having freshly filtered water constantly available. If you need a great filtration system that will fit almost any space, then the H54 or EF1500 might be the perfect solution for your home. Our team of filtration experts is always happy to help our customers find the perfect filtration solutions for their homes, so feel free to reach out if you have any questions.

A Closer Look at the Everpure H300
Here at efilters, we are happy to offer an extensive selection of home drinking water filtration systems. Of all of the high quality Everpure systems that we keep in stock, the Everpure H300 has remained one of the most popular home water filtration options that we offer. There are several reasons why these filters are so popular and today we will be looking at just a few reasons why these water filters are such a great option. Water Quality One of the most common reasons to add a water filtration system to your home is to make up for poor water quality. There are a wide range of different types of drinking water issues ranging from foul tastes and odors to cloudiness. Some homeowners may also be interested in home water filtration due to aging infrastructure in their area that can leach lead and other heavy metals into your water. The H300 is designed to deal with all of these issues. Each cartridge is packed with Everpure's proprietary Micropure filtration media that helps to reduce or remove a wide range of waterborne contaminants from your water. All of our Everpure products are certified by the NSF to reduce the presence of harmful contaminants like lead from drinking water. Despite their powerful filtration abilities, these filters are not designed to remove the essential minerals that you need from your water. Ease of Use On top of being extremely effective, the H300 drinking water filtration system is also extremely easy to use. They mount underneath your kitchen sink, use your home's cold water line, and filter water on demand. No need for daily refills or other common tasks used by cheap filters. All you have to do is install the system using a few basic hand tools(no plumbing experience needed), hook up a filtered water dispenser, and install your Everpure filter cartridge. Once your new system is installed, getting filtered water is as easy as using the faucet. Because the water is dispensed using a small dedicated faucet, you can continue to use your kitchen sink like you always have without having to worry about wasting any filtered water. The flow rate from these systems is powerful enough to fill a glass or pitcher quickly so you never have to wait for the water you need. Maintenance Like any filtration system, the H300 will require some maintenance. Each cartridge is designed to filter up to 300 gallons of water. After this point, you may begin to notice that the flow rate from the system has started to slow. When this happens or a year has passed since your last cartridge replacement, you will need to take some time to install a new cartridge. Luckily the maintenance process is a quick and simple one. Each Everpure filter head has a water shut off valve on the filter head that can be flipped to end the flow of water through the system. After flipping this switch, all you have to do is unscrew the old cartridge and screw in a new one before reopening the shut off valve. The entire process is about as complicated as changing a light bulb and should only have to be performed once per year. Upgrading Another huge advantage of the H300 is that it makes the perfect starter option in terms of Everpure systems. Because the cartridge can handle 300 gallons, it tends to be ideal for most families. After a year has passed, you just replace the cartridge and keep enjoying the convenience of having freshly filtered water available whenever you need it. If you notice that you have to change the cartridge before a year has passed, you can also consider upgrading to a large filter cartridge. Almost all Everpure systems use a standard filter head. This makes the process of changing from one cartridge to another a simple one. If you are using more than one H300 filter cartridge per year and want to cut down on filter changes, our team will be happy to help you find another cartridge that will fit your filtration system and offer the superior lifespan that you need so you can keep your maintenance requirements as minimal as possible.   If you have been debating installing a dedicated water filtration system in your kitchen, then the H300 might be the perfect filtration solution for your home. We really cannot recommend these filters enough and they are definitely one of the best ways to have crisp and clean filtered water always available in your home. If you have any questions about these filters or any of the other systems we carry, feel free to reach out to one of our filtration specialists. We are always happy to help our customers get the clean drinking water that they need.

How to Qualify a Good Water Purifier
Many homeowners and business owners probably only think about the value of a good water purifier from the stance that it improves the look, smell and taste of the water. While this is true, it is far from the only reason to take water filtration and purification seriously. It is the case that a good water purifier will improve these qualities in your water, and thus the experience of drinking tap water will improve as well. However, a quality water purification system will provide additional benefits that reach far beyond this, and can even impact your health as well as your family’s, the longevity of your fixtures, and even your cooking! Why A Good Water Purifier Is Important The top reasons that people cite for wanting to invest in a quality water purification system hinge on enhancing the traits of the water that are easily tangible. As a quick example, groundwater often exhibits the presence of hydrogen sulfide that can naturally occur from sulfate reducing bacteria or from decomposing organic material. Many people find these smell repellent, and a water purification system can help remove these impurities, enhancing the smell of your water. That is only one snapshot. The flavor and appearance of water will also vary with the source and location, and can be improved by leaps and bounds by a quality water purification system. But water filter systems often provide much more value. In addition to the fact that a water filtration system will remove the impurities that lead to poor taste or smell, or those that cause cloudiness or off colors, they are also better for your health. There are many organic and chemical impurities that might be present in both well and city water that can be hazardous to your health. A quality filtration system can remove these harmful contaminants, many of which will be detailed below. A good water purifier is also helpful to the environment, because the use of one can encourage homeowners to cut back on their use of disposable plastics like water bottles which will inevitably make their way to waterways and landfills. The more clean water you enjoy from the tap, the fewer pollution makes it way back into those water sources that we ultimately use anyway. With these points being made, it’s helpful to be able to more closely identify the types of contaminants that you would want a water purification system system to remove. This list is by no means comprehensive but it should give you a good place to start. Here are some of the common issues with drinking water that can be rectified with the use of a high quality water purification system. Common Issues with Drinking Water The issues that can arise in drinking water are multivariate, but many of the common ones will be addressed below. Luckily, a quality water purifier will help remove many if not all of them. Microbial contamination Microbial contamination is probably the most significant concern with most drinking water, though it is far from the only one. Some microbes are widespread and common in drinking water and must be removed before the water can be safely used for drinking, cooking or other domestic uses. For example, Cryptosporidium and Giardia lamblia are often found in natural water sources, even those that appear clear and clean. Giardia in particular is often implicated in infections that result from drinking contaminated water, causing stomach cramps, dehydration, general malaise and even flu-like symptoms. This is the parasite responsible for the ailment referred to as “Beaver Fever” due to the prevalence of the parasite in beaver ponds. Fortunately, a good water filtration system will remove these microbes. Other pesky microbes include iron bacteria, which can cause the appearance of an oily film on the surface of the water or even the presence of orange staining. They also can cause the water to take on a musty odor. Although these bacteria themselves are not known to cause diseases in humans, they may encourage the growth of other bacteria that do. Fortunately, a good water filtration system will remove these and other microorganisms from the water, making it much safer for domestic consumption. Off color, smell or taste As has been mentioned, water is sometimes subject to off colors, smells or tastes that can be caused by a variety of factors that cannot be neatly or succinctly described. As an example, the general term for water cloudiness or lack of clarity is turbidity. This is generally caused by suspended particles, most of which will be removed by a good water purifier, restoring its clarity, smell and taste. Another potential problem with the taste of drinking water is when it takes on a slightly salty savor, which can be caused by the presence of chlorides. Chlorides are often present in water that has dissolved the mineral from bedrock or underground strata, and it can cause an unpleasant salty taste and be destructive to metal fixtures. Unfortunately, chlorides are difficult to remove, but some reverse osmosis systems may be able to tackle them. Chlorine is another contaminant that can cause an off-flavor in water that is not considered pleasant. On that note, chlorine in high doses is damaging in other ways, but the problem here is that it’s addition to water in the first place is intended to kill bacteria that would cause human illness. Also, as chlorine kills bacteria and other microbes, it breaks down into compounds known as chloramines, which are known by their distinctive odor. Chloramines are also sometimes intentionally added to water to prevent the regrowth of bacteria. The signature smell of “pool chlorine” is in fact due to the presence of chloramines and not chlorine itself. Like chlorine, chloramines can cause unpleasant odors, flavors and cloudiness, but can be removed from the water. That makes chlorine, in some instances, a necessary evil, but one that can still be removed prior to drinking. A quality water purifier will remove chlorine from the water, reducing these unpleasant flavors. The mention of these compounds that cause these issues would be a good time to segue into chemical contaminants, of which there are many forms and which can be harmful in a number of ways. Chemical contaminants Many chemical contaminants occur naturally in water, while some are added. Either way, many of them can cause a variety of adverse effects and some are explicitly harmful to health. Lead: Despite the fact that lead is a naturally occurring element, it is a potent neurotoxin that is highly hazardous to human health. Adding to the potential danger is the fact that lead solder is sometimes used to join pipes. Lead, which readily dissolves in water, is colorless and cannot be tasted or smelled. Nonetheless, it must be removed for water to be consumed safely. Removing lead is critical, and a quality water purifier will help with this! Iron and manganese: Iron and manganese are often present in many water sources. The issue with iron is that the water that contains it is initially clear and it is very difficult to detect. However, over time, this water produces reddish stains as the iron oxidizes and leaves behind rust. Manganese, like iron, is also readily dissolved in water and the water itself that bears it will likely appear clear. Manganese is capable of leaving behind dark stains and in high concentrations will often impart an unpleasant taste to the water. A quality water filter will remove both of these! Other dissolved minerals and sediments that can cause cloudiness: A quality water purifier may also be able to remove other mineral contaminants from your water, which can provide two specific benefits. It may be able to help prevent a buildup of that mineral on your fixtures, which can preserve their lifespan. Some reverse osmosis systems can remove dissolved calcium and other minerals and salts that cause hard water scale accumulation that is both unsightly and damaging to your fixtures. In addition, as many of our purifiers can remove particles down to the 1/50,000th of an inch, they’re excellent for removing sediments that will make your water cloudy. Volatile organic compounds Finally, there are a number of volatile organic compounds of which you should be aware that can be hazardous to health and adversely affect the quality of your drinking water. Volatile organic compounds, also known as VOCs, comprise a broad class of compounds, many of which are man-made, that are hazardous to health and difficult to detect. Many of them are colorless, odorless and tasteless. For example, a common form of VOC that may be present in water is known as a trihalomethane, or a THM. Trihalomethanes are formed when chlorine, which is intentionally added to the water, interacts with organic compounds in the water that contain carbon, hydrogen and halogens. These compounds are considered a carcinogen and their removal from water prior to use is imperative. These are only one class of VOCs that may be present in drinking water, but many of them are linked to health concerns and it is advisable to take measures to remove them. Luckily, that is another benefit of a quality water purifier - look for guarantees that it can remove classes of VOCs from the water. How to Choose a Good Water Purifier by Features Armed with this information, you can proceed with choosing a good water purification system, and despite the fact that they operate via different methods, you can look for some of the following traits to make a wise choice. Certifications A good water purifier will come with a range of certifications that guarantee its efficacy. Consider, for example, our Everpure H300 Drinking Water System, which is our best selling system. This system has been tested by the National Sanitation Foundation (NSF) and is certified to remove chlorine, lead, parasitic cysts, a range of volatile organic compounds, dirt and cloudiness, oxidized iron, manganese and sulfides and other particulate matter matter down to 1/50,000th of an inch. That’s a certification you can trust to work hard to keep your water safe. The ability to remove the contaminants listed in the previous section While the certifications of a given filtration system will vary according to the system in question, you can learn more about each of them on our product pages and in our specification sheets. Naturally, if you have any specific questions on our systems, you can always get in touch with us at info@efilters.net. High flow rate and capacity Something else you want to consider is your actual usage of water. All filtration systems will provide differing flow rates, some of which will slow down as the cartridge (if the system takes one) ages. This won’t affect the quality of the water output, though. For example, the Everpure H-300 mentioned above is capable of filtering a half a gallon of water per minute and up to 300 gallons, or the equivalent of over 2,000 16.9 ounce bottles. Other systems provide different flow rates and capacities. A quality guarantee! Finally, look for a quality guarantee that shows the producer stands behind their products. We here at efilters guarantee that our filtration systems will perform as advertised and will meet your expectations - if you have any issues at all, we encourage you to get in touch with us. Email us at info@efilters.net or contact us via our Live Chat and we will do whatever we can to assist. You can also learn more about our warranty at the previous link. Contact Us to Learn More About Quality Choosing the best water purifier to ensure the highest water quality for your home will require you to solve as many potential issues at once with the water filter system and might require you to choose a reverse osmosis (RO) system, over, for example, a system that uses a pleated system inside of a cartridge. Deciding which system is best for you may take a little bit of investigation, but we are always here to help. Contact us at info@efilters.net, let us know about your unique needs, situation and water usage and we’ll make the recommendation we believe will suit you best!

A Look at a Few of Our Most Popular Filtration Systems
Having a home water filtration system is by far the best way to know that your home's water is always going to be safe to drink. Here at efilters, we have been helping home and business owners find the water filtration solutions they need to always have clean water available on demand. Today we are going to be looking at a few of our most popular water filtration systems including the Everpure H300, Everpure H104, Everpure H54, Everpure PBS400, and the Everpure ROM IV. All of these filters have their own unique advantages that you should consider when searching for a new drinking water filtration system. Why Add a Filtration System There are a lot of different reasons to add a water filtration system to your home. One of the most obvious reasons is when you begin to notice foul tastes and odors in your drinking water. These issues are caused by improper levels of treatment chemicals as well as biological contamination. No matter what the cause of the issue, one of our filtration systems can help return your water to excellent quality. Even if you have never noticed any issues with your home water quality, a dedicated filtration system is still a great idea. Some harmful contaminants like lead and other heavy metals can be present in your water without having a significant impact on the taste or smell. Installing a dedicated filtration system is one of the best ways to know that your water is clean so you can pour every glass with confidence that your family and friends are only drinking freshly filtered water. On top of giving you the convenience of having filtered water always available in your home, these filtration systems can also help you save. When compared to the price of bottled water, the water from your home filtration system is a fraction of the cost. A filtration system like our Everpure H300, which we will get to in a minute, can filter as much water as roughly 2,200 16.9 oz water bottles from a single filter cartridge. With a refillable bottle and one of our filter systems, you will never have to buy bottled water again, saving you money while lowering your ecological footprint. Everpure Filtration Systems Over the years, we have worked with a wide variety of filtration systems from many manufacturers. The fact that you will only find Pentair Everpure filters on our website is a result of the fact that they are the most effective and easy to use filtration systems that we have encountered over the years. Not only will these filters provide incredibly clean water, but they won't require the daily refills and other maintenance tasks associated with cheap pitcher filter systems. All of our Everpure home filtration systems are designed to mount underneath your kitchen sink and provide clean water on demand all year round. If you are looking for the best filtration system for your home, then one of the following options will probably be the perfect fit. H300 The Everpure H300 is one of the most popular filtration systems that we offer. There is a good reason for this, as the H300 is essentially the most basic Everpure option but still comes with all the features and benefits that make Everpure great. These filters are designed to mount underneath your kitchen sink and dispense water from a small dedicated faucet, leaving your kitchen sink to use like you always have. The secret to the efficiency and ease of use of the H300 and all Everpure filtration systems is all in the filter cartridge. These sleek metal cartridges are used by all Everpure systems and contain Pentair's exclusive Micro-Pure filtration media. This carbon based media has an incredibly high surface area, allowing it act like a sponge for soaking up waterborne contaminants. Inside the H300 filter cartridges, this media is arranged on a pleated membrane that helps to increase the flow of water within the cartridge while also maintaining a high surface area. This means that your water will be extremely well filtered without inhibiting the flow rate from your system. Every H300 cartridge is designed to filter approximately 300 gallons of water. For many households, this capacity is sufficient to provide a year of freshly filtered drinking water. All Everpure cartridges should be replaced at least once per year and every cartridge comes with a convenient indicator sticker that will start out white and turn solid red after a year has passed. If the flow rate from the system decreases before a year has passed, this is a sign that it is time to replace the cartridge. H104 If you are worried about frequent cartridge changes, we also carry a wide range of filtration systems with higher capacities. The Everpure H104 is designed to filter roughly 1000 gallons per cartridge. The H-104 drinking water system's large capacity makes it a great choice for larger households or anyone who has noticed that they are replacing their cartridges frequently on a lower capacity filter system like the H300. The Everpure H104 and H300 are both designed to use the same standard Everpure filter head. The cartridges are also the same size, so it is easy to swap one cartridge for another and increase the capacity of your system without having to make any other changes. This is another huge advantage to using Everpure filtration systems. Almost all of standard Everpure cartridges fit the same filter head with the exception of the Pro Series cartridges. Like all Everpure filtration systems, the Everpure H104 is certified to remove a wide range of contaminants including lead, small particulate matter, and disease causing parasitic cysts like cryptosporidium and giardia. This means that you can pour every glass with some extra peace of mind knowing that contaminants have been removed or reduced to safe levels while your water retains vital minerals found naturally in water that our bodies need. When it comes to the effectiveness of these filters, you don't have to take our work for it. All Everpure systems are NSF certified. The NSF or National Science Foundation is a government organization in the USA responsible for performing scientific tests on consumer products. All Everpure products feature various NSF certifications based on the types of contaminants they can effectively remove and reduce. H54 In some kitchens space is at a premium. A standard Everpure cartridge filter system requires 22 inches of space while also having enough head room to reach the built in valves on the filter head. This can easily take up more space than some kitchens have to spare, especially if the space under the sink is being used for other purposes. For areas with these constraints, the Everpure H54's 15" construction is a perfect fit. The compact size of the H54 also makes it an ideal choice for mobile homes and other kitchens where a large filtration system is not ideal. Adding a filtration system to a mobile home or camper's kitchen is a great way to ensure superior water quality when using campsite utility hookups that you might not be sure about. In addition to filtering your drinking water, the H54 is also designed to help soften water and control the build up of lime and scale. These types of build up can easily damage water using appliances and lower the effectiveness of soap. Each H54 cartridge can filter and remove scale from up to 750 gallons of water, making these cartridges long lived despite their small size. PBS400 Up until now, each of the systems that we have covered requires the installation of a small dedicated faucet in order to dispense your filtered water. While this can be convenient, it also requires adding a new fixture to your kitchen and drilling a hole in your countertop or sink. For homeowners who are not interested in adding a new fixture to their kitchens, Everpure full flow systems are the perfect solution. The Everpure PBS 400 is one such system. Full flow means that the filtered water from the system will be dispensed using the cold water side of your existing faucet instead of using a dedicated dispenser. In most Everpure systems, water is partially diverted from the cold water line and into the filter head while unfiltered water continues to flow to the faucet. Full flow systems completely delivert the cold water line through the filter head and then the filter output goes back into the cold water side of your faucet. This makes installing your new filtration system extremely easy. No need to drill holes or find a new faucet, you just have to install the system and enjoy up to 3000 gallons of filtered water per cartridge. While many Everpure filtration systems have a flow rate of roughly 0.5 gallons per minute, the PBS400 is designed to provide 2.2 gallons per minute. This output matches the strength of most home faucets. ROM IV For homeowners who want the best possible water quality, reverse osmosis filtration might be the perfect solution. So far, all of the systems covered have been carbon media based water filters. Reverse osmosis systems like our ROM IV combine carbon media filtration with Reverse osmosis technology to produce incredibly clean water. Osmosis is a process in nature where water or another solvent flows through a membrane to achieve a balanced level of dissolved particles on both sides of the membrane. In RO filtration, an artificial membrane is used that is only fine enough for water to pass through. By placing water on one side of the membrane and applying pressure, pure water moves to the other side of the membrane and any dissolved particles are left behind. The particulate and a small amount of wastewater are disposed of and the process repeats itself. Unlike carbon media filtration, reverse osmosis is a relatively slow process. Applying too much pressure would damage the RO membrane, so the process has to be gradual. In order to make this less of a concern, the ROM IV comes with a 4.5 gallon storage tank that will ensure that you always have fresh water available on demand. Reverse osmosis systems are also larger than other types of home filtration systems. The ROM IV used three filter cartridges. The first cartridge removes large particles and chlorine that can damage the membrane, the second cartridge performs the RO process, and the final cartridge filters the water one more time to capture any small organic compounds that got through the RO membrane. These cartridges, along with the storage tank, can take up a large amount of the space under your sink. The biggest advantage of RO filtration systems like the ROM IV is their water quality. While all of our filtration systems are designed to remove compounds that cause foul tastes or odors and sediment from water, the RO process is far more thorough. A standard filter can remove particles as small as half a micron in size while an RO filter can remove particles up to 200 times smaller. This makes the water you get from these systems super crisp and clean.   In addition to the Everpure H300, Everpure H104, Everpure H54, Everpure PBS400, and the Everpure ROM IV, we carry a huge selection of other high quality systems. If you need any help finding the perfect filtration system for your home, our team of filtration experts are always here to help. We have worked with these systems for years and our always happy to make sure that our customers are satisfied and getting the most out of their home filtration system.

Why Everpure Water Filters?
When it comes to water filters, there are a lot of different options available on the market. With some many different brands and types of filters available, some of our customers might be curious about why we choose to offer Everpure water filters exclusively. Today we will be looking at just a few reasons why we truly believe that these filtration systems are the best choice for homeowners. Incredible Convenience One of the first reasons that we love these filters is the fact that they are incredibly convenient. Unlike other filtration solutions, you will not have to add a bulbous device to your faucet or keep a bulky pitcher in your refrigerator. Instead, Everpure water filters are designed to be mounted underneath your kitchen sink. This keeps them out of the way and lets you get filtered water in the same place that you are used to getting your drinking water.  Once you have installed an Everpure system underneath your kitchen sink, you have an easy to use water filtration system that will deliver freshly filtered water using a small dedicated water dispensing faucet. These small air gap faucets come in many shapes and sizes, you can even find a selection right here at efilters in the "Dispensers and Faucets" section of our Drinking Water options. If adding a new fixture to your kitchen does not seem ideal for you, then we have other options for your home. In the "Full Flow Systems and Cartridges" section of Drinking Water products, you will find a wide range of home filtration systems like the Everpure PBS400 that are designed to dispense their filtered water via the cold water wide of your existing faucet. These systems allow you to add the convenience of having freshly filtered water available on tap to your kitchen without changing anything in sight. Efficient Filtration On top of being easy to integrate into any kitchen, Everpure water filters are also extremely efficient. Each Everpure water filtration cartridge is loaded with their proprietary Micro Pure water filtration media. This carbon based material is designed to help remove a wide variety of contaminants from your drinking water, including those responsible for foul tastes and odors in your drinking water. Because these cartridges are designed to hook into your home's water line, they are built with fine filtration media that is designed to operate under higher pressure, offering incredible results. An Everpure filter cartridge can remove particles as small as half a micron from your drinking water. That makes them fine enough to remove and silt, dirt, or rust from your water. They can also capture harmful biological cysts and heavy metals like lead. Despite offering this incredible filtration power, these cartridges are not designed to remove the essential minerals that we naturally need from our water. Easy to Install While the idea of installing a new appliance in your kitchen may seem like a tricky endeavor, Ever water filters are designed to be easy to install using only a few basic hand tools. If you can screw in a few screws and use a wrench, then you will be able to install your new filter system with no prior plumbing experience. Once you have screwed the filter head into place, leaving room for cartridge replacement, and installed the adapter to your water line, all you have to do is connect everything with simple hoses, add a cartridge, and run the water for a few minutes to purge any air from the lines. Once this work is done, your cartridge should last for about a year before it will need to be changed. Flexible Every Everpure cartridge is designed to filter a certain amount of water. This can range from 300 to several thousands of gallons of water per cartridge. We recommend replacing every cartridge after one year to get the best results from your system. If you notice a significant decrease in water flow before a year has passed, that might be a sign that you need to perform an early replacement. Luckily most Everpure systems use a standard filter head. This means that it is easy to upgrade to a cartridge with a higher capacity in order to match your home's needs. If you need help finding that right cartridge to pair with your system, our team is always here to help. If you have been interested in adding a filtration system to your home, we really cannot recommend Everpure water filters enough. Once you add one of these filters to your home, you will be able to enjoy the convenience of having filtered water on tap at a fraction of the cost of purchasing bottled water. If you have any questions about any of the filtration systems we carry or you need help finding the right system for your home, feel free to reach out to a member of our team. We are always happy to help our customers find the perfect drinking water solution for their homes.

Everything You Need to Know About the H54 Water Filter
When it comes to choosing a water filtration system for your home, there are a lot of factors to consider. If size is one of your top considerations, then the Everpure H54 water filter could be the perfect choice for you. Today we will be taking a look at these compact water filters so you can see that sometimes good things really do come in small packages. Most of our Everpure water filtration systems measure about 22 inches tall. While this is usually compact enough to fit underneath most sinks, sometimes space is at a premium. The H54 system measures only 15 inches, making it roughly ⅔ the size of our other systems. This can help save space underneath your kitchen sink, which can be especially useful if you have limited storage space in your kitchen. This compact size also makes these systems ideal for anyone looking for a built in water filtration system to use in an RV, where space is often at a premium. Despite the small size of these filters, they are not in any way underpowered. In fact, the H54 system offers the same filtration qualities as many of our larger water filtration systems. Each H54 filter cartridge is designed to filter 750 gallons of water, giving them over two times the filtration capacity of some larger cartridges we carry like the popular H300. Like all of our home water filters, the H54 contains Everpure’s proprietary Micropure filtration media. This material is capable of removing particulate matter as small as half a micron in size from your drinking water. This includes common contaminants such as rust, silt, lead, and other waterborne contaminants. These filters are also rated to help remove biological contaminants such as disease causing cysts like Giardia and Cryptosporidium. This filtration power comes for the carbon based media found inside these cartridges. Activated carbon, which looks like a fine black powder to the naked eye, is a great filtration material due to its high surface area. If you looked at this powder under a microscope, every granule is covered in jagged hills and valleys. This surface texture makes this material perfectly suited for extracting contaminants from your water, while allowing water to pass through them. The filtration media inside the H54 cartridge is arranged on a pleated membrane, which helps to increase the flow of water while still maximizing the surface area inside the cartridge. In addition to offering incredible filtration quality, the H54 is also designed to help prevent scale build up. Lime and scale buildup on faucets and appliances that use water are the result of dissolved ions in your water. Calcium and magnesium ions are the most common cause of this issue as they make water “hard”. In appliances like coffee makers and kettles, a large amount of scale can be deposited as water is heated and evaporated away. If you want to keep these appliances running more efficiently for longer, then these filters can be a great help. Hard water can also make soap less effective, which can be a big issue for RV owners. On top of softening and filtering your drinking water, the H54 is also incredibly easy to use. Like all of our Everpure water filtration systems, these filters are designed to be extremely easy to use. All you have to do is install the filter head and hook everything up to your water line. These systems also require adding a small filtered water dispenser to your sink in the form of an air gap faucet. Once you have installed all of these components, all you have to do is attach your filter cartridge, run the system for a few minutes to purge any air, and then enjoy the convenience of having freshly filtered water available 24/7. With a capacity of 750 gallons per cartridge, you usually only need to replace these cartridges once per year. If you notice that the flow rate of your system decreases before a year has passed, then you will need to replace your filter and you might want to consider replacing it with a higher capacity filter cartridge, which our team can help you find. If you are looking for a great and compact filtration system for your home or RV, then the H54 might just be the perfect option for you. You can find more information on these systems in our store, as well as a wide range of other great water filtration options. If you have any questions about any of the water filtration systems that we carry, feel free to reach out to one of our filtration experts. We are always happy to make sure that our customers can find the perfect filtration solutions to meet their needs.
